This popular turn-based role-playing game, which borrows elements from the enormously popular Final Fantasy series, was released in 2012 for the Nintendo 3DS, and the franchise’s next installment wouldn’t appear until 2021.

One of the first fantasy-themed tactical role-playing games, Shining Force debuted in 1992 and is still going strong today with a Steam game release and inclusion in a mobile classic bundle called Shining Force: The Legacy of Great Intention (free to play and ad supported). With the Shining Force franchise’s recent releases, the cult classic experience has been given new life and is now available to a whole new generation of gamers.
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin
Part of the acclaimed turn-based strategy series Advance Wars is Advance Wars: Days of Ruin (also known as Advance Wars: Dark Conflict). The formula used here elevates the strategy options beyond what fans have previously experienced, albeit with a darker tone and a wider range of units. The Rubinelle 12th Battalion, one of the nation’s last standing military units, serves as the focal point of the post-apocalyptic setting for this strategic adventure.
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness
In the Netherworld, the role-playing game Disgaea: Hour of Darkness follows the narcissistic protagonist Prince Laharl in a humorously dark tale. Laharl is awakened from his coffin at the beginning of the game by one of his vassals, who informs him that he has been sleeping for two years longer than expected, that his father, the formidable King Krichevskoy, has passed away, and that several other demons have arisen to contend for the vacant position of king.
