Larian Studios produced several Rivellon-themed games before the success of Original Sin and Original Sin 2, two of which gave players control over a dragon. The initial one was Divinity II: Ego Draconis and its expansion Flames of Vengeance.
This one is a third-person action RPG with all the features you’d expect from a Larian game, like corny humor and Lucien the Divine being in charge of everything that occurs throughout the game. But the one thing other games in the series don’t have is the main character’s ability to turn into a dragon.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
Alright, you might say that Spyro is quite old since the first game in the series debuted in 1998 on PlayStation, but there have been numerous re-releases since then and the titular character made his way to the Skylanders franchise as well.
All of the Spyro games revolve around the titular young dragon saving his friends from the grasp of various vile characters. Platform games made up the first three games in the series, but later games in the franchise experimented with the action-adventure and RPG genres.
Spyro is equipped with a variety of powers, including the two draconic mainstays: flight (or gliding) and fire breath. A dragonfly by the name of Sparx serves as his devoted companion.
Dragon Rage
As a chunky red dragon whose only goal is destruction, Dragon Rage allows you to release all of your stored rages. This side-scrolling dopamine overload sees the player devouring villagers, tearing down castles, and roasting knights until nothing is left. If that’s not enough, a well-fed dragon can lay eggs and let loose her hatchlings to join in the fun or go into Rampage Mode to annihilate everything in her path.

I Of the Dragon
This underappreciated gem lets the player lead their own flock of followers while battling a wicked cult. The protagonist in I Of The Dragon is destined to save the world, so the pillaging won’t be quite as indiscriminate as in other dragon games. Each of the three dragons has different stats and a special breath weapon (fire, ice, or poison), and the player gets to choose which one they want to play as.
When a dragon level up, its appearance also changes; depending on how it develops, it may get bigger horns or spikes on its tail. I Of The Dragon wasn’t well-liked when it first came out because of the repetitive campaign, but it’s worth looking into now that it’s been twenty years. Heck, maybe it’s time for a reboot!
